Wood by 32″ after SS5 as Evans fights back

Posted by:

Steve Wood laid down another fastest stage time to keep a nice cushion over the second place car of Meirion Evans with the latter almost matching Wood’s time over the Buck’s Bridge test. His 4″ advantage on that stage over the hard charging Dalton has arrested the slip a bit and given him a slight cushion between the two before the second run through Long Lane. Maybe the twistier nature of the stage suited the Hyundai better. Dalton has ...

Wood leads after SS4 but Dalton is on a stonker of a charge

Posted by:

Steve Wood has pulled another 9″ out of Meirion Evans after the second spin around the Shanbo test, but whatever John Dalton’s crew did to the Darrian in service has paid off, either that or the tyre choice he had talked to me about. He came within 1.4″ of the time of the grippier and more powerful Subaru. The long straightish start to the stage must have fallen right into his hands. Gary Kiernan and Frank Kelly were also ...

It’s slippy out there, so say the drivers

As we wait for the crews to get going on SS4, Shanbo for the second time, interesting insights from some of the field. Steve Wood, despite his lead and the obvious grip he has over most of the field, and power to boot as well, he is frustrated a bit by having to hold back a bit due to the wet conditions, braking earlier into the bends and not powering out of the bends as hard as he would ...

Steve Wood has made hay while the sun doesn’t shine here in Enniscorthy, but the roads are drying. he took a massive 14.5″ out of Meirion Evans on the Long Lane test. The battle for 3rd to 5th couldn’t be more exciting, Gary Kiernan, John Dalton and Frank Kelly couldn’t be seperated my more than the with of a piece of paper on SS3 with only 0.3″ difference on their stage times. the gaps between them you might as ...

Results coming in thick and fast now, Steve Wood has put down fastest time in Shanbo but was was almost matched on the Buck’s Bridge test, 0.5″ difference between the 2nd place car of Meirion Evans leaving the gap between the two at 8.6″. Gary Kiernan is the best place Irish driver in 3rd, 5.2″ further back. All tight at the top, more when we have it.

The rally underway, minus a previous winner!

Posted by:

The cars are just starting SS1 up near Templeshanbo, Steve Wood will be anxious to take up where he left off 12 months ago by setting out a marker on the first test of the day. It is a tad slippy out there after more than a little rain during the night. One car that local fans will have to do without seeing over the weekend though is James Stafford. When the car was put to bed for the ...
