Purcell powers ahead on SS10

Posted by:

Not the start to day 2 of the rally that our overnight leader wanted, only 6th fastest on SS10, ironically the nearest stage of the rally to his home, and what was a lead of 4.2″ has now turned in to a deficit of 14.6″. Richard Moffett was also a big loser on this test, he has dropped three places. More later

Stafford storms SS9

Posted by:

The old saying of there being many a slip between cup and lip is very true. The slip in this instance is the slip that Andrew Purcell had with his car on the last stage of the day, well a spin to be more precise. It turned an 11″ advantage into just over 4″ of a deficit, not something he would have been thinking of overnight. Having said that, he was just happy to have made James Stafford work ...

Nip and tuck at the top

Posted by:

In a game of swings and roundabouts, the lead had opened out to just over 11″ again with Andrew Purcell increasing the lead by 7.5″ on SS8. Given that Stafford has been quicker on the Balcarrag on the two previous passes, by 8″ on the previous pass, the lead could well be down to just a small few seconds by the end of the first day. we have waited quite a few years to get such a small overnight ...

Stafford strikes back on SS6

Posted by:

As we thought might happen, James Stafford has taken a big chunk of time back on SS6, the gap is down to just over 9″, Purcell only posted the 5th fastest time on the last stage before 2nd service. Gary Kiernan as expected had gone up to 3rd, taking about 10″ out of Richard Moffett on the stage. While we wait for more cars to come out of the stage, we will give you what we think is accurate ...

Purcell pulls away on SS5

Posted by:

Andrew Purcell has stretched out the lead again on SS5, as he did on the first loop. James Stafford reckoned this particular stage doesn’t suit his car well but the last stage of the loop does so we can possibly see the gap shorten again.Richard Moffett has Gary Kiernan taking more time out of him so the battle for 3rd is by no means over. Leon Galvin has made good ground on SS4 but has dropped back a bit ...

Thank heaven for precise timing

Posted by:

The first three cars were literally separated by the blink of an eye on SS4, James Stafford was 0.2″ quicker than Andrew Purcell, who in turn was 0.8″ quicker than Gary Kiernan, time that close it would only be separated by the proverbial cigarette paper. If anyone tells you that this is not entertaining, send them to us and we will send the “Boys” around and convince them differently. If Gary Kiernan keeps up this pace, he will get ...

Stafford bites back on SS3

Posted by:

James Stafford seems to have found a new gear in the Darrian, or Jeff Case has put poitín in the fuel tank, as he set a blistering fastest time on SS3, 5.2″ faster than Andrew Purcell, bringing the deficit down to just over 6″. It has also moved him back in front of Richard Moffett and put him well clear of Stephen McCann who was breathing down his neck after the previous stage. McCann and gary Kiernan close out ...

Purcell pushes ahead on SS2

Posted by:

Andrew Purcell has pushed his advantage out even further on SS2, now leading by 5.9″ from Richard Moffett, who in turn has moved ahead of James Stafford in 2nd, the latter only posting 4th fastest time on SS2, trouble with the car or what, we don’t know, we will try find out after the next stage when they come in for the first service of the day. A lot of work will have to be done now by the ...

Andrew Purcell looking to upset the apple cart

Posted by:

With the leading cars just finished the first stage of the day, the results screen was changing quicker than we could look at it. Just as we thought that James Stafford had taken a 7.2″ lead, Andrew Purcell in the Fiesta went even quicker again with 5″ exactly advantage over the Darrian. Richard Moffett in the Starlet has got into 3rd ahead of Gary Kiernan, who in turn has Stephen McCann very close behind in another Fiesta in 5th. ...

We’re under way

Posted by:

The leading cars have just left service and are just starting SS1 in Clohamon. James Stafford d will be trying to become the first Irish winner since 2013, ironically he was that last Irish winner. He seemed in relaxed yet focused mind as he made his way out, hoping the stages will stay dry. It is dry here in service and from what we hear, dry also that bit north of us on the loop of stages. Gary Kiernan ...
