Wood leads with one to go

Posted by:

Just a quick update, at the end of SS14, the gap has held at roughly 42″, barring a disaster it looks like we have a three time winner in Steve Wood. Can’t seem to see Leon Galvin yet but Richard Moore is set for 5th, leading Wexford driver home.

Two to go, and Wood looking to make it three

Posted by:

Steve Wood is closing in fast on a hat trick with over 40 seconds of a cushion over Meirion Evans, with John Dalton making it an all Welsh podium looking very likely in a couple of hours back at rally HQ. Tomas Davies has gone out of the rally on the fourth stage of the day, bumping up everyone behind him. Looking very goo for the local crews, Richard Moore in 5th, Richard Cleary and Leon Galvin in the ...

Wood leads after SS12 but Evans closes in a bit

Posted by:

With not much more than the top 10 times from SS12 in yet, it is looking very good for the hat trick for Steve Wood. He managed to ease off a small bit on the second run around Boolaboy where the gap reduced by just over 11 seconds, but last time around when the cars did Redgate, Wood hauled that back in heaps, will he do the same on the second pass through? John Dalton looks almost certain to ...

Wood extends the lead on SS11

Posted by:

Having lost a few seconds on the first test of the morning, Steve Wood has done what he does best, put the pedal to the metal. Where Meirion Evans took 2.1″ advantage on SS10, Wood paid him back in heaps by taking just under 13″ back from the younger Welshman on the first trio through the Redgate stage. John Dalton in comfortably in 3rd, 1.28.03 being the advantage back to Frank Kelly but Richard Moore is not going down ...

Wood takes up where he left off, leading after SS10

Posted by:

Steve Wood has retained his overnight lead albeit with Meirion Evans taking 2.1″ off the overnight leader on the first pass through Boolaboy. The big news of the morning is that Gary Kiernan is out of the rally. His not so terminal clutch problem from last night has turned into a terminal ditch problem on the first stage this morning. Frank Kelly is now up to 4th and the good news on the local front is that Richard Moore ...

Wood leads overnight

Posted by:

Steve Wood is our overnight leader and hoping not to put a jinx on him, he would very very odds on for the hat trick, don’t rush out to the bookies to put a few bob on him, you would win almost nothing. Meirion Evans is growing into the rally and the Hyundai i20 as the rally goes on, even taking 5″ out of our rally leader. It is an all Welsh top 3 with john Dalton leap frogging ...

Wood leads with one stage to go today

Posted by:

Almost forgot to keep everyone informed, no real change in what is a stable top 5 at the moment. Steve Wood is looking to be heading to another Wexford stages rally, one of the elite few to to a three in a row. Meirion Evans is making a good show of it in the i20, he took a rather large 5″ out of our rally leader to deny him a clean sweep of fastest stage times for the day. ...

Wood by 32″ after SS5 as Evans fights back

Posted by:

Steve Wood laid down another fastest stage time to keep a nice cushion over the second place car of Meirion Evans with the latter almost matching Wood’s time over the Buck’s Bridge test. His 4″ advantage on that stage over the hard charging Dalton has arrested the slip a bit and given him a slight cushion between the two before the second run through Long Lane. Maybe the twistier nature of the stage suited the Hyundai better. Dalton has ...

Wood leads after SS4 but Dalton is on a stonker of a charge

Posted by:

Steve Wood has pulled another 9″ out of Meirion Evans after the second spin around the Shanbo test, but whatever John Dalton’s crew did to the Darrian in service has paid off, either that or the tyre choice he had talked to me about. He came within 1.4″ of the time of the grippier and more powerful Subaru. The long straightish start to the stage must have fallen right into his hands. Gary Kiernan and Frank Kelly were also ...

It’s slippy out there, so say the drivers

Posted by:

As we wait for the crews to get going on SS4, Shanbo for the second time, interesting insights from some of the field. Steve Wood, despite his lead and the obvious grip he has over most of the field, and power to boot as well, he is frustrated a bit by having to hold back a bit due to the wet conditions, braking earlier into the bends and not powering out of the bends as hard as he would ...
