All change on the morning’s first loop as we have our 4th different leader

The big news this morning is that overnight leader Paddy McVeigh has crashed out on SS10 and his rally is over. The lead at the end of the stage had passed to Steve Wood going into SS11, but a spin by Wood on the Tullycanna stage passed the lead to Gary Kiernan by 3″. As Keith Moriarty, pace note man for Wood put it, “We lost a ball of time”. All this chopping and changing is making for a very good rally for the vans, but quite a job for us pundits as to try to figure out who will be the victor come 16.30hrs this evening. One could only imagine that Wood will push hard on SS12 to try regain the lead but all the fun in front of Enda O’Brien has made 3rd a little safer for the Escort driver. Adrian Hetherington is almost assured 4th as long as he gets home safely as he has just on two minutes to spare over Kevin Barrett. Michael Conlon is in the long grass 27″ behind should Barrett slip up, while just over 30″ back Richard Moore is in a close battle with Tomas Davies lurks a further 9″ back and Simon Reid is only 12″ further back in 9th. Graham Scallan has moved into the top 10, he should be able to maintain that as there is over a minute to spare over Wayne Evans.
