Michael Boyle keeps the family tradition alive with the win here in Wexford

Michael Boyle has won the Wexford stages rally, which ironically his Father did last year in the same car, will the car or the driver get the trophy?? He took the lead early on on the second day and was building nicely to look like he was nailed on for the win. Eddie Doherty, who had led the rally all day yesterday, and the early part of today, wasn’t giving up without a shout. Doherty put the foot down again on SS16 and brought the gap down to 3s. Boyle responded, and did it in style, over the last two stages taking 13.1s over the last two stages. Doherty does have the consolation of being the leading Wexford MC member for the event, that within a week of becoming national champion, I think he’ll take that week anytime. Daniel Cronin will take the 3rd place trophy back down to Cork, at the start of today, he would have thought that unlikely as Declan Boyle was taking that spot. Boyle the elder would have been happy with that given that he was unlikely to catch either of our top two, but his rally was to come to an end 2.75km into SS13. We can report that all is well there, but shows the professionalism of the remaining Boyle clan to get the job done. In that vein, Matthew Boyle, in his first run out in a Class 5, came home in 4th. Just under a minute behind that was probably the second best battle of the day. Shane Quinn and Aidan Wray traded places quite a few times during the day, but eventually Quinn took the 5th spot by 5.1s. Casey Jay Coleman looks to be a name for the future with a fantastic 7th place with 1m23.6s to spare over Andrew Purcell in 8th. Another battle went on during the day between Cal McCarthy and James Stafford for 9th & 10th, this swapped a few times ,but eventually McCarthy got the better of Stafford by 14.3s.
