Wexford Motor Club held their first meeting of the new millennium on Tuesday, 11th January, at the Talbot Hotel.

Chairman John Naylor welcomed the large attendance to the meeting. The main item on the agenda was the Lighthouse Single Stage Rally which was held in Fethard-on-Sea on Sunday, 12th December last.

Clerk of the Course Eamonn Kehoe gave his report on the rally and brought up some items which he felt needed to be addressed. He complemented the Hotel Naomh Seosamh, who sponsored the event, and the people of Fethard for their help and support in the organising and running of the event.

Club Steward Noel Stacey also gave his report and commented that the day's events ran well with all the services and communications in place. He reminded the membership that the focus should be kept on motorsport for the coming year.

The event was won by Co. Down's Martin Taggart in a Mark II Escort from Gorey man David James with Trevor Colbert from Wicklow taking third position.

Other club members who performed well were Tomas and John O'Rourke in their Opel Astra, who won Class 3 with Shay and Bea White taking Class 10 in their Toyota Starlet. Local ladies crew Margo Doyle and Maria Dunne took first in the ladies class form Denise and Jenny Ryan from Athy.

The Chairman congratulated David James on his class win on both days in Mondello over the Christmas holiday break. Congratulations must also go to Michael A Roche and Michael B Roche who won their class in the National Hillclimb Championship. Dave Lynch and Anne Marie Moran came second in their class in the Red Mills National Championship, driving a Ford Escort Cosworth 4WD.

The annual Club Dinner Dance will take place at the Hotel Naomh Seosamh next month and a large attendance is expected. The Club Championship awards wil be presented on the night.
