The big news here in service this morning is that Gareth McHale has gone out of the rally this morning, his Focus spotted sitting in a ditch tail first. When we talked to PJ McGrath as he came into service, he told us that McHale had taken 10 seconds from him on the first test, but got no time for the second. David James was next i and ran over to us to tell us of the demise of Gareth.
David James has now moved into second place, leaving it a probability that we are going to have a local winner, and a first time winner of the event. Both James, and 001 driver, Shaun Gallagher, reported the stages a little slippy despite the morning sunshine. harder tyres was what James was thinking of for the next time out.
Looking down the field it seems to be as you were fromlast night with the exception of Alan Carmichael, who seems to have put the foot on the pedal this morning. Wesley Patterson looks like he is on his way to leading two wheel drive spot, having a decent cushion between himself and Owen Murphy, the near one minute gap to Damien Tourish for third will probably be too much to make up. Neil Williams broke a steering arm on his Escort, the reason he is not showing up on the top 10.
