initial reports that we are getting here i the reslts wagon is that there are huge crowds out on the stages as the sun is starting to heat us up in the south east. the early morning fog, which drifted in off the sea, has now gone and we are getting glorious sunshine. The big news so far this morning, even before the rally started is the retirement, due to an oil leak, of David James. His Focus developed a leak on the pipe to the oil cooler and that put paid to his weekend even before it started. Also seen, on a tow back to Wexford, was Mick kehoe. it has to be presumed that some mechanical lurgy or other has scuppered his event.
Our esteemed spotter out on the course, Dougie Hughes, is that Eamon Boland has layed down a marker to his younger rival by taking roughly 15sec of gareth McHale over the first two tests. It is early doors t the moment, so hang on and see how that battle developes through the day. Melvyn Evans is keeping a watching eye on McHale, but PJ McGrath is doing a fine job match Evans times almost in fourth. Messers Redmond, Collins, Doyle and Williams are having a stonker of a battle for fifth to eight.
Trevor harding and Liam Wall make up the top ten, with Olie Mc Phillips only a few seconds outside of the ten.
