Despite a late push from Gareth McHale, Eamon Boland cruised to an 18" victory in the 2007 running of this event, one of the closest finishes we have had for a good few years. The dice over the two days has been one of the most enjoyable rally's to follow for all of the legions of fans that had to make the hard choice between watching this Wexford win and the fantastic one by the ladies that did the county very proyd in the camogie All-Ireland final. By most estimates, this has been the largest supported Wexford rallys ever. The fantastic weather over the two days has led to the fastest, body sapping, car testing events ever. Over the years we have had good weather for one day and bad for the other, or bad weather for both!!!. In my memory, we have never had two good days back to back like this.
The two wheel drive challenge also has been a huge sucsess. The fact that it was for all two wheel drives lead to a fantastic assortment of all that is good in clubman rallying. Adding in the junior rally for the last quarter of the event, it has been a great three rallies in one.
Looking down the rest of the runners, the top 15 more or less held station, preserving the car after a grueling two days was the option taken by all except darren Caldwell, who pipped Neil Hickey for 15th. Phil Collins will return home on the morning ferry with his win in the two wheel drive challenge, maybe if the celebrations go on too long, it may be tomorrow evening's ferry!!!!
