Tuesday 27th March
OK folks, bettter late than never, here is a rough idea of what is happening at the weekend and how to get there for those travelling any distance.
For anyone travelling from Wales via Rosslare, follow the N25 from Rosslare through to the third roundabout of the Wexford ring road where the first exit is signposted as the N25 for New Ross. Follow this for 30km (or 20 miles for those working in old money!!!)and as you aproach New Ross, there will be a turn to the right for Dublin, Kilkenny and Enniscorthy. Turn right at this point to go towards the areas for the two days activities, back to this in a moment. Carry straight on at this junction to get to the Friday scrutiny area, where you follow the road into the town along the quay, crossing the bridge as you follow the road to Waterford and Cork on the N25. About approx 800m from the bridge as you get to the outskirts of the town, you will se signs directing you to an industrial estate where the scrutiny will take place.
Back to the directions to the event areas, as you follow the road across the top of the town, you go through the lights and follow the signs for Kilkenny, Enniscorthy etc. As you get out of the town, having passed a water tower on your right, you will come to a T junction at Mannions pub. Take a right turn here following the signs for Kilkenny etc. Carry on down this road for approx 1.5km, passing along side the river and leaving the Kilkenny turn across an old lift bridge to your left, till you reach the next left signposted for Borris. Turn left here, passing Donnacha's Bar on your right. Both day's events are on this road, Saturday's hill being further along this road than Sunday's. Sunday's hill is based in this area around the pub, Saturday's hill is based near Drummond, about 8-10km further up the road.
For those coming from the south and south west, follow the N25 through New Ross, following the signs for Wexford. At the top of the first hill as you leave New Ross, you will see the turn to Kilkenny etc. on your left. Follow the directions as before from here.
For those travelling from the west or mid-west through Kilkenny, proceed to New Ross through Thomastown and Inistioge till you cross the river at the old lift bridge mentioned before. Turn left here to get to the hills or right into the town.
For those travelling from the North or North west, follow the road to Enniscorthy from either Dublin or Carlow. In Enniscorthy, follow the signs for the N30 to New Ross and Waterford. About 30km from Enniscorthy, having passed through Clonroche along the way, you will come across the turn to the right for Borris. Turn her for the hills or continue on to get into the town.
Both night's prizegivings will be in the aforementioned Donnacha's Bar at approx 6pm both nights. I am reliably informed that there will be good entertainment on both nights with light refreshments available also. If all these directions have you a little addled and you are still lost, don't be afraid to email for further clarification!!!
