Report 6. Sunday 14.30
The news now that we have had the cars in to service is that due to the cancellation of SS11, the lead in the rally is still 3sec to the advantage of the Carlow man over the Cork man. Murphy and O’Sullivan are now nearly one and a half minutes ahead of the third place car of Melvyn Evans.
Evans in turn has over a minute to spare from Richie Curran. There is a half minute gap back to John Price. Curran and Price swapped times on the two stages run so far this morning, keeping the status quo. What will happen over the last four stages is anyone’s guess. Steve Fleck seems to be in no danger for his fifth place, unless bad luck gets in the way
There is a battle royal between the two local drivers, David James and PJ McGrath for 7th and 8th. It will be interesting to see if the damage to the latters car will eventually prove terminal.
John Bogie’s 6R4 is holding station in 9th ahead of Liam Wall in 10th. Willie Carroll and a very fast charging James Stafford are lurking in the 10 to 20 area, how will the latter curse the broken gearlever that robbed him of four minutes yesterday.
