Eamonn Boland has put in a spectacular performance in the final rally before his home event next weekend.

The Wexford driver has come home fourth in the Stena Line Ulster Rally behind runaway winner Andrew Nesbitt.

Boland, partnered by Northerner Francis Regan, brought his 'new shape' Subaru Impreza home just outside of the podium positions.

He had to work hard for it though, due to a dramatic fightback from the lower end of the top ten caused by a broken drive shaft.

Welshman Gwyndaf Evans was pushed down to fifth by the Wexfordian by a margin of 37 seconds, but at the top of the pile, Nesbitt was never going to be beaten in his home rally.

The Armagh man, partnered by James O'Brien, turned the event into nothing more than a demonstration run after the first few stages, easing their Impreza onto the Belfast finish ramp with more than three minutes in hand over Toyota crew Jonny Milner and Nicky Beech in second place.
